Stata Workshops

In the beginning of the term, we offer 75-minute hands-on workshops to support students' introduction to Stata or to data wrangling. Sessions run weekly from Week 1 to Week 4.

Session Descriptions

Stata Onboarding

This workshop is designed for students either entirely new to Stata, seeking extra support, or looking for a refresher after minimal prior exposure. The session starts with a brief overview of the general data analysis process, followed by a guided tour of the Stata GUI, loading in and inspecting a dataset, writing do-files for basic cleaning and analysis, and generating output. Little to no statistical background and no exposure to Stata is assumed.

Data Wrangling with Stata

This workshop is designed for students confronted with manipulating unprepped data for the first time, typically in senior writing intensives. The session covers appending, collapsing, merging, and reshaping data, starting with an overview for students to grasp and digest how data is transformed for the needs of the research question. Prior exposure equivalent to the onboarding session is assumed.

Live Schedule

The 75-minute sessions run Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 AM, 12:30 PM, or 5:00 PM (sessions offered vary by week). The programming spans the first four weeks of the Fall term, shifting from the onboarding to data wrangling sessions. Unless noted otherwise, all sessions will be held in 331 DeBartolo Hall Computer Classroom.
