Gender Differences in Parents’ Leisure Time
The goal of this project is to examine gender differences in leisure and sports after classifying activities as “child-centered” or “adult-centered” using data from the American Time Use Survey (ATUS). There is inconsistency in the literature because many parental activities coded as leisure or sports are for the child, and thus are more akin to childcare rather than actual leisure time for the parent. Preliminary results support this idea and suggest that future work should code childcare, leisure, and sports differently.
